The UTHS robotics team (L to R: Erick Shoesmith,
Isaiah Smith, team captain Kendrack Finley, and Amir Chaudhry) competed in state competition this past weekend, earning fourth place in their division of twenty-two teams.

The UTHS robotics team  of Erick Shoesmith, team captain Kendrack Finley, Isaiah Smith, and Amir Chaudhry competed at the state level in the FIRST Tech Challenge, earning fourth place in their division of twenty-two teams.

With two divisions to compete in, the top four teams from each division were able to form alliances with partner schools and compete again.  Unfortunately for UT’s team, that meant battling the first-place alliance, which resulted in a loss.

Team member Amir Chaudhry wasn’t disappointed, however.

“We did great,” Amir said.  “We weren’t the top school in any of the award categories, but the judges really liked us, so they gave us a Judges’ Award.”

For the team that wins at this level, there is a world competition level to move onto, giving the UTHS crew motivation and a goal for next year.
