A new team has surfaced in our school this year, and it has started its season with a bang. United Township High School’s scholastic bowl team has already seen many big accomplishments. The most recent is a third place finish at the Riverdale tournament over the weekend. Prior to this, Aaron Flemming, Cameron Hetzel and Ethan Pearson have been especially successful, being named All-Stars. Aaron says this was done by being one of the top eight scorers overall during a tournament. He believes joining the scholastic bowl team is “a great way to learn new things,” and he prefers the history questions over any of the other various categories.

Mrs. Peterson, English teacher, is the coach of the debuting team. She volunteered to take the leadership position because she thought it would be a “fun and interesting thing to do.” This is her first time being involved with an official scholastic bowl team, but she has had experience with other trivia-related activities. So far, she has done an exemplary job leading a team of mostly veteran scholastic bowl players. That is, many of the students involved did this activity in middle school. Mrs. Peterson said she is “really excited we have a team this year,” and is “glad we are starting out with a successful season.”
