“I walk quickly to my car as to escape what I know will soon be my future if I don’t hustle…”

“Raw Toast” is an opinion column from co-editor Haley Davidson, and does not represent the view of the Panther Press staff, adviser, administration, or school district.  In fact, there’s a good chance it doesn’t reflect the view of anyone other than Haley.

It’s 2:56 pm and once again I find myself transcending through the impossibly crowded hallway and out the double doors into the fresh air that surrounds United Township High School.  I walk quickly to my car as to escape what I know will soon be my future if I don’t hustle, but once I put my bags in my passenger seat, buckle my seat-belt, and start my car, it begins: the parade of screeching tires and honking horns.

Every time I back up just enough to see that nobody is coming, someone undoubtedly sweeps around the corner and flies past me. Without fail behind this somebody is a jubilee of other vehicles following suit. My escape plan has failed once again. With the feeling of irritability and regret filling the air around me, I sit with my vehicle in reverse with my foot on the break.  I casually try to back up and find my spot in traffic for the next five minutes.

Not to worry, though, readers. The symphony of honking horns, blaring music, and rude speech filling my ears undoubtedly brightens my mood and makes the entire endeavor A-okay.
